A new electric car is on the horizon, but it’s one that could take you further than most.
The Blue Ridge Electric Kart, a race car designed to test the limits of electric vehicles, is in the final stages of development.
“It’s definitely a challenge, but also a lot of fun,” Mr Doolan said.
Kart driver Joe Doolana has spent almost 10 years testing the Kart and believes it is the first real electric car.
It’s designed to push electric cars to the limit, using its massive powertrain to push a track to 60 kilometres per hour.
Electric cars will eventually get to 60km/h, but only in electric vehicles with an output of at least 500 kilowatts (kW) like the Blue Ridge Kart.
Its range has been estimated to be between 400 and 800 kilometres, which is a good deal of distance to drive.
If you’re looking for a fast electric car to get around, Mr Doodana said you might want to look at the Porsche Panamera, which has a top speed of 300km/hour.
But for the people who don’t want to be driven on a track, electric vehicles are not for them.
Mr Doolanas passion for electric cars is evident in his work on the Karts racing car, which he has also built.
He’s been building the car for over 10 years and is proud of the design.
“It took a lot longer to make than it would have taken to build a Ferrari,” he said.
“But it’s really, really cool.
It looks like a Ferrari, and it’s got the same feel as one.”
